Kannagara Woods
Botanical Sanctuary and Wildlife Habitat
Located in northeastern Ohio in Medina County on about 10 acres of forested land, Kannagara Woods Botanical Sanctuary & Wildlife Habitat is dedicated to developing and preserving the skills necessary to live harmoniously in nature and to sharing those skills with the community through workshops and other educational opportunities. The property is home to many of the plants on the United Plant Savers at-risk and to-watch lists and includes a 1/2 acre permaculture-based forest garden where a wide variety of fruit trees and bushes and native medicinal plants are grown. In addition to developing the forest garden, for the past several years we have been working to re-introduce endangered native plants like ginseng and goldenseal to the “wild” forest covering most of the property. Our goal for the next couple years is to partner with other local permaculture organizations to offer more workshops and forest walks highlighting the beauty and ecological value of our rapidly diminishing forests and the importance of protecting the endangered species of plants and animals found there.
